Hi, I’m Raffinee (screen right), and I’m the voice behind Raff Out Loud. That gorgeous arm candy on the left is my wife Micaela. We currently live in the Bay Area California with our three children Mateo, Luca and Lola.
Although we are both the medical field, we actually met while attending the same college in California many years before (read more about that here!). When our paths first crossed at school, I knew there was something special about Micaela. Little did I know, seven years later we would be the first same sex couple to be married in the famous Loretto Chapel of Santa Fe, New Mexico!
Both of us have always wanted children, so soon after we got married we started the process. We conceived all of our children through intrauterine insemination or IUI. If you want to learn more about what that process was like, make sure to read this blog post!
When we started our journey we knew two things. First, that we wanted to use the same donor for all our children and second, that we wanted them to be close in age. In fact at one point, Micaela even wanted us to be pregnant at the same time! Thankfully, the universe had our back on this one and that never happened. Micaela got pregnant first with our oldest son, Mateo and 7.5 months later (or 235 days to be exact), I delivered Luca and Lola. In other words, for 4.5 months out of the year we have THREE children the same age!
While Micaela finishes up her General Surgery residency program, I have put a pause on my Pediatric Nursing career to stay at home with our three littles. Life definitely gets wild with three toddlers running the show, but magical moments are frequent with them being so close in age.
We are also a vegan family! A few years ago, I watched a documentary about veganism and was totally intrigued. Long story short, that one documentary turned into three more, which turned into a handful of books and a few scientific papers. The evidence was clear and I was convinced. But old habits die hard and it took me three times to go vegan. I’m so glad I literally listened to my gut on this one because it has completely changed my life. Micaela went vegan shortly after I did and our kids have been vegan since birth. In full transparency, I was a little intimidated at the thought of raising three toddlers vegan, but it’s been fairly straight forward overall! (I get a lot of questions about this, so I will definitely be doing a post on this in the future!)
Thanks so much for stopping by and getting to know us! If you have any questions, or would like to see a particular topic covered in the blog, please leave a comment below!
